These dates and times are no good as I am at work
Hello, we’ll record the Q&A sessions and put them back into the course so people can catch up on the discussion. The course will remain open until the end of Monday 3rd of Feb to give people additional time to work through the content. Hope that helps!
Hi, I missed the live sessions, but trying to catch up now. I have one issue and it’s one that my care team have ignored as valid. I have had T1 for 53 years, with generally good control, but since the Covid vaccinations (I only had the first 3) I have developed insulin restriction. The vaccine increases autoimmunity and diabetes is an autoimmune issue? I raised a flag with the vaccine team and they thanked me for my detailed reports. I understand also many T1’s have had similar issues. My pump was giving high BGs when the cannulas had only been in for 6-8 hours, no amount of correction bolus’ would reduce the BGs, often going above 20. I returned to MDI to give more control but only a small improvement in control. For eg my bg was rising, a put in a correction of 20u as it was quite high, and I wanted to eat some carbs. The BG continued to rise and I hadn’t eaten. Another 15u still had no effect. Interestingly at bedtime and not eaten a thing, the Toujeo Solostar injection started to drop BG instantly. I use Novorapid for Bolus, I tried FIASP which was supposed to be faster acting, but it wasn’t maybe slower than novorapid. My consultant prescribed Lyumjev KwikPen as it was supposed to be very quick acting. With that it can take a couple of hours before reducing my BG. I think my metabolism has slowed since the vaccines which introduces a further concern especially when going low, especially at night. I have carbs and glucose on my bedside table. I take 4 or 5 glucose tablets to raise my BG, and then eat carbs whilst keeping an eye on my Libre2 readings. I will not go to sleep until my glucose stabilises, but eating more carbs until it does stabilise frequently means I wake with a high BG >20.
The team did say I may be able to get a closed loop system, but if there is still an insulin resistance then it’s not moving forward.
Any thought or help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks – Allen
